Famous Engagement Rings and Diamonds - Graff Diamond Heist

The Graff Diamond's heist is the largest robbery of gems in British history. Graff's Diamonds is on New Bond Street in London, and on 6th August 2009 two men wearing suits entered the premises and stole jewelry worth £40 million! The two men had latex prosthetic masks made by a skilled makeup artist to conceal their identities. The thieves stole 42 items in total including diamond rings (no doubt some engagement rings), necklaces, earrings and watches, escaping in several different getaway cars, and have not been seen since.

The two men arrived at New Bond Street by taxi and entered Graff's. They then produced two pistols and threatened staff. A lady who worked there was held hostage briefly. They exited the store front with her as a hostage then dumped her as they jumped into their blue getaway BMW. They then drove a few blocks and switched to a Mercedes and shot a round into the ground. Following that the two thieves changed cars again and that was the last reported sighting of them.

While all diamonds were laser marked with the Graff logo and all had GIA identification numbers, they have not been found or reported. Investigators believe that the two thieves knew exactly what they were hauling and had buyers lined up prior to the robbery. The suspects are believed to have left the country with an elaborately planned escape route.
