Famous Engagement Rings and Diamonds - Pumpkin DiamondThe Pumpkin Diamond is a cushion cut, fancy vivid orange coloured diamond. This diamond weighs in at 5.54 diamond carats, which may sound small for a famous diamond - however it is the biggest vivid orange diamond on earth. The GIA did the grading of the Pumpkin Diamond and noted that it was noticeably brighter and more intense than most orange diamonds. This diamond was discovered in the Central African Republic before being taken to South Africa to sell. After being cut by William Goldberg in New York, it was taken to Sotheby’s to be auctioned, where it was bought by Ronald Winston for $1.3 million US dollars. It is now believed to be able to fetch even $3 million US dollars! Ronald gave the diamond the nickname ‘The Pumpkin Diamond’ because he bought it from Sotheby’s on Halloween and because of its orange colour. Ronald Winston set the pumpkin diamond as a three stone ring with two white side stone diamonds; Halle Berry wore this ring at the 2002 Oscars (no it was not one of her many engagement rings)!
Famous Engagement Rings and Diamonds - Orange DiamondsOrange diamonds are rare - however not as rare as red or green diamonds. Diamonds can only be labelled as orange if they have no brown tint in them whatsoever. This colour is often referred to as apricot. There are so few orange diamonds around and very little is known about how they are created with the bright orange colour. Other names given to orange diamonds are amber, peach, burnt orange, autumn, cognac and many more. Rough orange diamonds are mined in both Australia and South Africa. I wonder how popular orange diamonds are for engagement rings. Time to research some famous fancy coloured diamond engagement rings! |
