Engagement Rings - Weight Loss Affects the Royal Ring?

Weight Loss Affects The Royal Ring

The palace isn’t commenting but if rumours from several sources are true it must have caused a huge dilemma for the jeweller involved.

Kate Middleton’s weight loss leading up to the big wedding day has meant that the sapphire and diamond engagement ring that that belonged to Lady Diana has become loose due to the reduction in fatty tissue around her ring finger. Sapphire and Diamond Engagement Ring

What is the protocol for resizing a Royal engagement ring? Is there one? Can you really just melt the band and shrink it down? What if she puts on weight again?

Help has arrived in the form of a method known as ‘speed bumps’ and seems to be the accepted solution from Crown jewellers G Collins and Sons. Two small platinum beads will be attached to the inside of the band which will add another 1.25mm – hopefully enough to keep it from sliding off.

Considering that the Royal Wedding will be the most closely scrutinised event of the year, the ring dropping off to bounce its way down the aisle during the post ceremony kiss would be regrettable to say the least. G Collins and Sons will be holding their breath and hoping Kate has a few square meals prior to the wedding day.
