Round, Princess, Emerald, Marquise, Oval, Pear,... Diamonds
This section of our Engagement Rings Buyers Guide explains what is meant by Diamond Shape.
Diamonds can be cut into all kinds of shapes. The most common is of course the Round Brilliant, but Princess shaped diamonds are also very popular. Our engagement rings feature lots of different shapes and you can choose to customise a ring by picking an unusual shape.
What are the common Diamond Shapes?
The table below shows the most common diamond shapes. We can get other shapes, such as Heart, Cushion, Flower,.. etc on request.
Round Brilliant Engagement Rings
Round Brilliant is the most common shape used in engagement rings. The shape was actually mathematically designed (by Marcell Tolkowsky in 1919) to maximise the amount of light that is reflected back out through the top face (table) of the diamond. We have a whole range of engagement rings with round brilliant diamonds.
Please see our Engagement Rings Online Shop.
Princess Engagement Rings
Princess is the second most common shape used in engagement rings. Viewed from above it appears square. The Princess shape, like the Round, has a high degree of brilliance (sparkle) which is perhaps why it is so popular. Higher
diamond colour grades are important in the Princess shape, to avoid seeing colour in the corners. Please see our Engagement Rings Online Shop.
Emerald Engagement Rings
Emerald shaped diamonds have a large main face (table) which is perhaps what makes them so enchanting. At the same time, the wide open face, means that higher
diamond clarity grades are important (VS2 or better).
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with an Emerald Shaped diamond.
Marquise Engagement Rings
The Marquise shape appears larger for the same carat weight compared to a round diamond. The Marquise shape also suits people with slender fingers.
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with a Marquise Shaped diamond.
Oval Engagement Rings
Like the Marquise, the Oval particularly suits people with slender fingers. Like a round shaped diamond the Oval has excellent brilliance (sparkle).
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with an Oval Shaped diamond.
Pear Engagement Rings
Pear (or Teardrop) shaped diamonds are particularly beautiful as side stones in a custom design. Some simple solitaire engagement rings also suit Pears.
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with a Pear Shaped diamond.
Asscher Engagement Rings
The Asscher diamond shape is like an Emerald, but square as opposed to rectangular. It's best to select a
diamond clarity above VS2 because the top face (table) is so large that inclusions can be easily seen.
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with an Asscher Shaped diamond.
Trillion Engagement Rings
Trillion is a very unique shape. These diamonds work particularly well as side stones in a custom design. They can also look very contemporary in a simple solitaire ring.
We can supply most of our engagement rings in our online shop or via our custom service with a Trillion Shaped diamond.
