Welcome to our website www.1791diamonds.co.uk
Version 1.1 26th April 2009
This website at www.1791diamonds.co.uk (the "Website") is owned by 1791 Diamonds (U.K.) Limited (referred to on the Website as "we", "our" or "us").
Your use of our Website is governed by these terms of use. By accessing and browsing our Website you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
We may amend these terms and conditions from time to time without giving you notice and any amended terms and conditions will be effective immediately upon notification on our Website. Your continued use of our Website represents your agreement to be bound by the amended terms and conditions.
If you wish to purchase our products through our Website, you will be required to agree to additional terms and conditions relating to online payment for these transactions.
Our Terms and Conditions
1. Our promise
Our jewellery is designed by us and is crafted to high standards using only high-quality materials.
We will endeavour to provide you with excellent customer service. If there is anything you would like to discuss about our products or our Website then please don’t hesitate to contact us.
2. Our policy on "conflict diamonds"
We only purchase diamonds from suppliers who adhere to the standards of the Kimberley Process, an international system of checks and warranties prohibiting the trade in conflict diamonds. If you would like more information on the Kimberley Process and conflict-free diamonds then visit: www.kimberleyprocess.com
3. Certificates & Reports
All of our rings containing diamonds over 0.3 carats are supplied with a diamond grading report from an independent lab such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA); Gemlab; Advanced Gem Laboratory (AGL), The Diamond High Council of Belgium (HRD); and the International Gemological Institute (IGI). A grading report from an independent laboratory gives you the confidence that you are getting a diamond of the quality you paid for, and helps to avoid purchasing conflict diamonds. Note many jewellers produce their own reports. We do not think this is good practice and recommend you insist on independent reports.
4. Delivery
Delivery times are calculated from the time that payment is received for an order. From that time, you can expect delivery in the UK within 12-15 working days. On arrival, all jewellery must be signed for by a person aged 18 or over.
The responsibility for the jewellery passes to you once the goods are signed for by someone at the delivery address.
If you have chosen our 'Valuation for Insurance' option, then this will add 2-4 days to your expected delivery time.
Click here for delivery times over the Christmas and New Year period.
5. Value Added Tax (VAT)
We will charge VAT, at the prevailing rate, for all orders to be delivered in the UK and wider European Union. The prices on our Website are inclusive of VAT unless we say otherwise.
We will not charge VAT, on orders to be delivered outside the European Union.
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a VAT refund or exclude VAT from the purchase price for orders, to be delivered within the UK, but to a person visiting from overseas. This is because, as an online retailer, we are not able to participate in the VAT Retail Export Scheme.
6. Returns policy
When you order from us through our Website, you are entitled to a "cooling off" period in accordance with Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000. Our "cooling off" period is 14 days. If you intend to return jewellery during the "cooling off" period:
a) You must contact us about your intention to return goods within 14 days of receiving them. We will issue you a returns number, instructions for its packaging and will arrange an insured courier. Please do not return jewellery in any other way because it probably won't be insured and we won't accept responsibility for losses.
b) When signed for by us following return, the jewellery must be in "as new" condition, in its original box, together with its diamond grading report.
Certain items are excluded from the cooling off period guarantee, unless we are at fault. These are personalised or engraved items.
Your statutory rights are not affected by this returns policy. If there is a fault in materials or manufacture we will replace a ring free of charge.
7. Ring size
All our rings are made on demand. As a result, the pictures on our Website are indicative and not of the actual ring. You can, however, be sure that we use our best endeavours to make each ring to a very high standard of quality and as near to the original master as possible.
To have a free Ring Sizer sent to you, please complete the Ring Sizer request form.
If a ring we send to you needs re-sizing then we will do this for free within the first 60 days from when you receive it. Please first use the contact us page to arrange re-sizing. We will issue you a returns number and arrange an insured courier. Do not return rings in any other way because they probably won't be insured and we won’t accept responsibility for this.
8. Diamond carat weight and millimetre size
To help you envisage the approximate dimensions of a diamond, we sometimes show an approximate millimetre size alongside the official carat weight of a diamond. Please note this is a very approximate measure and it can be quite inaccurate because it is based on averages and not the actual diamond.
The carat weight (ct) and total carat weight (ctw) shown is always a minimum carat weight. When you place an order for our jewellery you will always get at least that carat weight or total carat weight of diamond shown.
9. Photos
Our Website contains various photos, 3D models and illustrations of our products. These are often not to scale and may appear both larger and smaller than the actual size. We have done this so you can see the detail in our designs. In addition, we often have to alter and enhance pictures. The objective of this is to remove reflections of the camera, reflections of the photo booth, and reflections of photographic lighting, as well as dust and dirt marks from the camera lens and defects or dirt on the camera digital sensor.
10. Intellectual property
Our ring designs are unique and all intellectual property, including copyright and design rights in them belongs to us. You may not reproduce these designs, nor have a jeweller reproduce these designs for you.
