Value your Engagement Ring for Insurance Purposes! This section of our Engagement Rings Buyers Guide, explains why you should get a valuation of your Engagement Ring. In this section we cover: Why get your Engagement Ring Valued? You will probably want to insure your Engagement Ring and as a result you will need it to be valued because your insurance company will want proof of its value. We can organise this for you, but it's appropriate that this is done independently. We suggest the UK Assay office. If you would like us to send your ring there for valuation, please let us know. You can of course make the arrangements yourself with any independent valuer. How Are Engagement Rings Valued? The valuer will first ascertain the Weight of the Diamond and Precious Metal in your Engagement Ring. They will also subjectively assess the quality of the craftsmanship. Engagement Rings sold in the UK have to pass through the UK Assay Office so the purity of the Precious Metal can be assessed. The Assay Office then stamp (or laser mark) the ring accordingly. The valuer will check this mark is present. The valuer will also check the diamond is not a fake and check its size and quality grading is as per the certificate and sales documentation. There are several factors considered here. These are as follows: The valuer will then assign a price based on the replacement costs of the precious metals, diamonds and the craftsmanship.
